Noble Passions, Book Four

Kidnapped and held prisoner by menacing Scottish brigand, the notorious McCloud, Violet Wyeth does her best to persevere…and resist his rakish charms. But when she realizes The McCloud is really Ewan St. Andrews, the boy who once saved her life, the boy who once kissed her and made her heart flutter, she is lost.

Ewan has every intention of marrying Lady Kaitlin MacAllister. He desperately needs the entrĂ©e into the ton this bride can provide. But when his bride is delivered—bound and gagged—it’s not Kaitlin. It’s Violet Wyeth—the girl who betrayed him and ruined his life when he was a boy. He keeps her, determined to punish her for her sins. But when he discovers the truth about what really happened so long ago, and seething passion rises between them, he can no longer hold on to his rusty grudge. By the time he realizes how much he loves Violet—that he always has—he’s lost her.

All he can do is follow her. Follow her into the bowels of hell—and partake in the torment of the glittering London Season, where the harpies are far more dangerous than a Scottish brigand.

Brigand is book four in the Noble Passions series by Sabrina York. It is a historical romance, which is not my usual genre, but I really love this series! It can be read as a standalone.  There is a little overlapping of the story from Dark Duke, but nothing that really spoils it. I think it enhanced that story, seeing it from another perspective.

Ewan McCloud is a... you guessed it...a brigand.... a rough and tumble, self made man. He made his money by stealing and winning it. He is trying to marry well so that his little sister can be welcomed into the London society to secure herself a good marriage. Enter a horrible man willing to sell his sister to Ewan. Before she can be sold, the sister disappears. When the brother kidnaps her, he brings Violet to Ewan instead. Normally this would be easy to clear up, but Ewan and Violet have a past, and he wants to hurt Violet. He blames Violet for his family's misfortune in the past.

Violet is the oldest of a huge family of boys, but she is a stranger to hard work. She is a lady. Ewan makes her work hard to “earn her keep”.  Violet is no shrinking... violet (ahhhh, I see what you did there, Sabrina!!) She doesn’t stand down, and I absolutely love her. Even though Ewan is kind of a jerk (Sabrina York style) you still see why, and you grow to love him.

There are major obstacles to work through. Ewan has a burning desire to be accepted by London society, and that includes marriage to a Lady. He doesn’t think anyone other than the one that he has already arranged will do, so he plans to go ahead with it. Violet is best friends with said Lady and wants to keep her from marrying Ewan, because she knows how much this union is unwanted. Plus, her growing feelings for Ewan make her jealous. There are other twists thrown in to make you say WHAT??

I promise, if you even think you might like a historical romance, you should try this one. Sabrina York writes hot, sexy, and hysterically funny books that will keep you entertained. Plus, if you don’t learn at least one new word when you read one of her books, you just aren’t trying!

I give it five stars!
