Last Breath by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick: Blog Tour and Review

I never really knew what misery was until the day I was kidnapped and sold for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Two months later, I'm at a brothel in Rio when I meet Daniel Hays. He says he's here to save me, but can I trust him? All I know of him is his sarcastic retorts and his tendency to solve every dispute with his gun. He's also the only safe thing in my world, and I know it's wrong to fall in love with him, but I can't seem to help myself. He says he’ll protect me until his last breath but I don’t know if I should believe him or even if I can.

For the last eighteen months, I’ve had one goal that has dictated every action I’ve taken. I’ve left the Army, turned paid hit man, and have befriended criminals all across the globe to find my kidnapped sister. In every brothel I raid or every human trafficking truck I stop, I hope the next face I find is my sister’s. In a hidden brothel in Rio, I find Regan Porter, bruised by not broken and still sane despite her weeks in captivity. I should leave her behind or send her home because the last thing either of us needs right now is to get involved. But with every passing minute, I find I can’t let her go.

Please note: this contains some scenes that sensitive readers may find upsetting or triggering.

Last Breath is book two in the Hitman Series by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick. Please note, I do my best not to give spoilers of the book that I’m reviewing, but when the book is in a series, I can’t promise that I won’t give away spoilers from the previous books in the series. So, if you haven’t read book one, Last Hit, please beware when you are reading this review.

We were introduced to Regan in Last Hit. She was Daisy’s roommate, and because of her association with Daisy, she was kidnapped by members of the Russian mob and sold into sexual slavery. I won’t go into a lot of details, but that scene was really horrible, because you actually liked Regan, and it was heartbreaking to see what was happening to her. In my opinion, Nic totally let what happened to Regan happen in order to save Daisy.

Daniel is another Hitman, really an associate of Nic’s that is trying to befriend him. We really don’t know anything about him from Hit Man, other than his name, and that he seems like an Okay guy.

That is pretty much what we get from Hit Man, when I found out the next book would be about Regan, I was a little hesitant. The broken, sex slave captive has been done several times in the past. It isn’t one of my favorite things to read about. It isn’t conducive to a happy romance novel. My extreme love of Jen Frederick had me begging for the book anyway.

I have to admit, this book was amazing! It was way better than Hit Man, in my opinion. The action parts, which consisted of trying to get Regan back to the US safely, were so much more interesting. I was riveted trying to decide what was going on and who was the “real” bad guy in the situation.

Daniel has an ulterior motive for looking for sex traffickers and that makes for another interesting story, and sets us up for, what I’m sure will be, another amazing book in this series. Daniel is attracted to Regan from the start, and he is so appalled by the attraction to someone that has been suffering as she has been. He is determined to stay away from her. Regan has been hurt so badly, but she isn’t broken. I love how her views on sex is so different than the totally broken view we usually get. She has this really crazy manipulative view that intrigued me. Her ability to survive was just amazing (Although a little different from the impression you got from her in Last Hit)

I loved this book, and I can’t wait for the third book in the series. I’d give it five stars.

She’s a biter. That’s the warning given when I point to the blonde with the glazed green eyes in Senhor Gomes’ book of whores. He shakes his head and says that he has access to dozens of others that are better and all willing to engage in whatever perverse activity I want. He brags that there isn’t a sick sex act I can think of that Gomes can’t fulfill. I like home cooking, I tell him. A Texan in Rio sees a lot of beautiful Brazilian women, but sometimes you want a little star-spangled banner in the rotation.
He nods as if this makes sense to him, but I think it’s the money that I’m flashing that he understands. We walk up to the second floor and down a narrow hall toward the back, a windowless part of this brick and metal building. I can’t call it a home or even a brothel. It’s a dingy place where men with deep perversions but shallow wallets can get their rocks off.
I don’t want to have sex here, I’ve explained to Gomes. I have a thing against hellholes and having sex in them. I wave around a lot of cash, and Gomes nodded and asks no more questions.
We’re a strange parade—Gomes, me, and some house mom trailing behind. He stops at the second to last door and removes a key.
I’ve seen pictures of Regan Porter before, and not in Gomes’ look book, but nothing prepares me for her full-fledged, magazine-quality beauty. She hasn’t been eating well; her delicate bones are beginning to look sharp in places—at her shoulders, ribs, and hips. But there’s no denying her breathtaking looks. Her blonde hair is damp and small strands stick to her perfect skull. Her oval face, with its pink cheekbones and lush lips and eyebrows that look like wings, stands out like a piece of fine china at a flea market. Though she’s thin, there’s a delicious curviness in the slope of her side as it dips into the waist and flares back out to form a cuppable roundness at the hip. And those endlessly long legs.
Shit. I close my eyes and swallow. No decent man would be standing here thinking about those legs wrapped around his waist. But then again, I’m not decent. I’m no longer army sniper, Special Forces Daniel Hays who may have once been lauded as a hero for killing insurgents in Afghanistan. Now I’m Daniel Hays, mercenary who kills people for money and spends all his spare time in brothels and flesh dens like this one. Decency is a word I don’t even know the meaning to anymore.
It’s been too long since I’ve had a woman. That’s my only excuse. That and I’m becoming the monster that I’m hunting. I focus on the bruises on her knees that are scraped red and raw from time on the floor and the manacle around her ankle. Any feelings of arousal are jettisoned by the obvious signs of abuse.
Glancing sharply at Gomes, I wonder how he’s come to possess a beauty like Regan Porter. Gomes is a small-time flesh peddler, stuck up here in the slums, with a house full of females—half of which are missing their teeth or are too old or too broken.
He usually gets what the market calls second-hand goods, the girls that no other house wants. But Regan Porter is gorgeous, and while she looks a little rundown, she’s still model beautiful with big pink lips and wide green eyes.
“Nice tits,” I smirk for Gomes’ sake and her shudder of disgust only feeds into my growing belief that I’m as dirty as the flesh trader beside me. The dark edges of the world that I now inhabit are seeping into my skin like an oil slick covering an ocean. I shouldn’t want to touch her. And if I have to fuck her in front of Gomes to get her out of here—I don’t even let myself finish that thought.
There’s still life in her eyes. If she’s biting and spitting out acerbic insults, there’s spirit left in her, and I don’t want to be the one to snuff out that last flame. Her eyes convey her hate, and if she had a knife, I’d be sliced from my throat to my belly. I stare back, not because she’s fucking beautiful, but because she’s still standing. I’m not sure I would’ve been as strong. I don’t know if she sees my admiration or whether she can only interpret varying degrees of lust and degradation, but she sees something. An invisible string spools out between us and her eyes widen when it hits her like an electrical shock.
For months I’ve swum in a pool of blood and death and ugly deeds, and to hold onto my sanity and maybe my soul, I’ve told myself that saving these doves balances the scale.  For every life I take, if I save one then it’s all a wash in the end. Don’t think it’s tallied that way at St. Peter’s Gate, but that’s the lie I tell myself so I can sleep at night and look at myself in the mirror the next day. Regan Porter will either be part of my attempt at salvation or the bloody stone that etches out the words He Failed on my headstone.

Throttle Me by Chelle Bliss Release Blitz

Men of Inked Series Book #1

Suzy’s a control freak and has her life mapped out - work hard, find a man with a stable job, and live happily ever after. She’s content with the status quo, but her plan comes to a screeching halt when he enters her life and turns it upside down. City gave up on love when his heart was crushed in college, preferring to be the typical bachelor. He spends his nights hopping from one bed to another and his days working at his family tattoo shop, Inked. A chance encounter on a dark road makes him question what he had sworn off forever – a relationship. A night of passion and lust causes them to question everything. Is City the knight in shining armor to the damsel in distress? Can their relationship survive when a fantasy falls apart and a secret comes out that changes everything?
“Do you swear?” I asked as she set the glass back on the bar.
“What?” She gaped at me.
“Do you swear? Simple question. You’ve said ‘heck’ and ‘friggin’’ so far, but nothing dirty.”
“Oh, um, yeah, I swear.” Her cheeks turned pink and a small smile spread across her face. “I’m just used to watching my words with the kids around all day.”
“Prove it,” I said as I stared in her blue sapphire eyes.
“What? Why?”
“Cause I need to know if it’s in you. Are you all good girl or is there more under there dying to come out?” I hid the smile and laughter that was so close to breaking free from my lips. The pink of her cheeks spread across her face. I know I embarrassed her, but fuck, I needed to know if I stood a chance.
“Yes, I swear. What do you think I am? I’m not a child, City.” She glared at me as she raised the drink to her lips and wrapped them around the rim. Fuck I wanted those lips wrapped around my shaft, taking me deep and sucking me off.
“Never said you were, babe. Do you drink besides tonight?” I asked, now smiling because I knew she was upset. I liked the fire I saw in her eyes when I pointed out her good girl qualities – she obviously didn’t like being labeled.
“Sometimes. I’m just responsible. I don’t drink and drive. My dad used to be a cop and it was drilled into my head at an early age.” The words she spoke hit me like a ton of bricks. Drunk driving was the one thing in the world that caused my blood to boil.
Good girl teacher with a cop father? Just my luck. “Nothin’ wrong with that. Virgin daiquiris aren’t always your thing, then?”
“Why? Do I have to be a drinker? I mean does it make me less of an adult?”
“No, Suzy. Just trying to get a feel for who you are – what you are.”

Reasonable Doubt by Whitney Gracia Williams: ARC Review

Title: Reasonable Doubt
Series: Reasonable Doubt #1
Author: Whitney Gracia Williams
Release Date:  April 1, 2014

My cock has an appetite.

A huge and very particular appetite: Blonde, curvy, and preferably not a fucking liar...(Although, that's a story for another day.)

As a high profile lawyer, I don't have time to waste on relationships, so I fulfill my needs by anonymously chatting and sleeping with women I meet online.

My rules are simple: One dinner. One night. No repeats.

This is only casual sex. Nothing more. Nothing less.

At least it was , until "Alyssa"...

She was supposed to be a 27 year old lawyer, a book hoarder, and completely unattractive. She was supposed to be someone I shared law advice with late at night, someone I could trust with details of my weekly escapades.

But then she came into my firm for an interview--a college-intern interview, and everything fucking changed...

Book 1 in a three part Erotic Romance Serial.
Coming Soon. Very Soon.

Whitney G why have I not read you before??!?

OMG!!!!!  I CANNOT GET OVER HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS!!!  Yes, I’m using shout-y CAPS.  This book is way more than shout-y caps worthy!  This is F@CKING FANTASTIC!  SEXY, FABULOUS, HOT!  You definitely WANT to read this.  It’s dripping with sexual tension and total awesomeness. This is a f@cking fabulous start to the series. And, I need more NOW!

The blurb really does tell you all that you need to know.  Just wait until you find out what happens when Andrew realizes just who Alyssa is.

Andrew….  He's yummy, delicious, and a complete arsehole.  He has a dirty mouth.... filthy even.  He’s sexy, hot, and smart.  He's blunt, bold, and can make a girl wet in less than 10 words.  Andrew is what he is and makes no excuse for it.  He’s the best cocky a-hole I’ve ever come across in a book.  So, YES…. I. NEED. MORE. ANDREW.

Reasonable Doubt is fabulous right out of the starting gate, but with the way it ended it's about to get even better.  Bring on Episode 2 Whitney!

(This book is part of a serial so keep that in mind before you say it’s short.  It’s like watching a tv series…. you just need to wait for the season finale, that’s all.)

A self diagnosed candy addict, travel junkie, and hypochondriac, Whitney Gracia Williams LOVES to write about characters that make you laugh, cry, and want to (in the case of Selena Ross) reach through your Kindle and slap them.

She is the "imaginary bestselling" author of the Jilted Bride Series, Mid Life Love, Wasted Love, and Captain of My Soul.

Behind His Eyes: Truth by Aleatha Romig: Blog Tour Review and Giveaway

BEHIND HIS EYES TRUTH is the second of CONSEQUENCES SERIES three reading companions, by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig. It is recommended to be read after completing all of the CONSEQUENCES SERIES: Consequences, Truth, and Convicted. It is not a standalone book and should not be read as such.
This reading companion explores the thoughts and motivations of Anthony Rawlings and his struggle to accept the truth behind the consequences. It is not intended as a total rewrite of TRUTH, but meant to enhance the reader’s understanding. BEHIND HIS EYES TRUTH contains significant scenes from the novel TRUTH, as experienced from Anthony’s point of view. It also contains never before read, behind the scenes information, a glossary of the characters, and a timeline which grows from Consequences to include the array of new characters and revelations found in the pages of Truth.
BEHIND HIS EYES TRUTH is the continued journey inside the mind of the man who supplied and survived the consequences. This companion allows readers the opportunity to witness first hand as Anthony’s world changes forever. His rules and control begin to slip away, threatened by the most unlikely foes—something completely unfamiliar.
Can something as pure as love and forgiveness wreak havoc on his well-planned existence?
BEHIND HIS EYES TRUTH, because there is more to learn about a man who:
Once upon a time, signed a napkin that he knew was a contract. As an esteemed businessman, he forgot one very important rule—he forgot to read the fine print. It wasn't an acquisition to own another person as he’d previously assumed. It was an agreement to acquire a soul.
—Aleatha Romig, CONVICTED

Continue the long and painful acquisition, as the TRUTH becomes evident, from Behind His Eyes!

I only have two words....Anthony Rawling. I have never been on the Team Tony bandwagon, some things are unforgivable to me. That being said I thawed towards him a bit in Truth and moved back to the death by 1,000 cuts on his penis in BHE: Consequences. I don't know what type of sorcery that Aleatha practices, but she is capable of making me not hate this man as much as I know I should. I am actually not the biggest fan of authors re-writing books from a different characters POV. You usually end up with the same story and feel cheated out of your hard earned cash. The idea behind Behind His Eyes is brilliant. To take key scenes and tell give insight into what was going on inside the other persons head...and it works. Never do I have the feeling I am just rehashing something I've already read. Maybe it's because Tony is so bi-polar (read: psycho) it feels like a different book. If you've read Truth you know that Claire and Tony are not together for the first bit, so the beginning of BHE: Truth is all fresh and new. We get to see Tony's reaction to the news that Claire is free and his inability to find her.

I may have possibly, maybe, perhaps, not wanted to kill Tony, but what has remained the same is my dislike for Catherine. Even reading the original series I felt that Tony may not have been so bad without her in his ear like the little demonic presence on his shoulder. If you've read Truth you know how this ends...and we are left wanting more. Having read this I now want to go back and re-read Truth! I think it would be interesting to know what's going through Tony's head while reading what is going to Claire's. Aleatha has done it again! I am impatient for BHE: Convicted and worried. Will I become Team Tony? Do I want this series to end? We'll just have to wait and see! 4.5 Stars for this awesome book!

Aleatha Romig is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, who has been voted #1 "New Author to Read" on Goodreads, July 2012 - Present!

Aleatha has lived most of her life in Indiana, growing-up in Mishawaka, graduating from Indiana University, and currently living south of Indianapolis. Together with her high-school sweetheart and husband of twenty seven years, they've raised three children. Now, when she’s not imagining mind-blowing twists and turns, she likes to spend her time with her family and friends. Her pastimes include exercising, reading, and creating heroes/ anti-heroes who haunt your dreams!

Aleatha enjoys traveling, especially when there is a beach involved. In 2011 she had the opportunity to visit Sydney, Australia to visit her daughter studying at the University of Wollongong. Her dream is to travel to places in her novels and around the world.

CONSEQUENCES, her first novel, was released August 2011 by Xlibris Publishing. Then in October of 2012, Ms. Romig re-released CONSEQUENCES as an indie author. Fragile Truths by DH Sidebottom & RM James: ARC Review

Title: Fragile Truths
Series: Shadows of Sin #1
Author: DH Sidebottom & RM James
Release Date:  March 31, 2014

To live is to suffer; to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering. Friedrich Nietzsche.

The bitterness is consuming. It's intensity slashes and claws at my insides, it's hatred wrenching my soul as it curls and nurtures my need for revenge.

HIS torture only feeds my vice. I won't let HIM break me, only strengthen me. The pain HE gives is welcomed, it's rawness fuelling the loathing inside with each of HIS thrashes and tears on my pale skin, with every harsh truth HE breathes in my ear and with each of HIS crippling holds.

I have waited too long for this and I'll never let the bastard win.
He will have to end me before I give in.
But now HE has a weapon against me. Something I swore throughout my life I would never let in;

Her strength astounds me. HE doesn't seem to break her.
HIS relentless persecution and determination to bury her under his furious reign and brutality eats at my soul. It has found that dark place inside me, the pit of hell I had locked and secured away, and enriched it, demanded its flourish and ripened its ferocity. The family wrath.

She'll never give in, and I pray every night as I guide her through the darkness that tomorrow will bring the light to her soul before it is consumed, finally, by the plague of HIM.

She blossoms under my torture, the soft suppleness of her skin ripping and tearing as though her soul is trying to break free from the agony.
I'll allow it, because I can. Because I need her soul. I crave the sustenance it feeds my rage with, my thirst for cruelty quenched by the sounds of her desolate screams and my hunger for blood, nourished by the slow drip of her life force at my feet.
She thinks I won't break her, so does he. They underestimate the blood that slithers through my veins. It's the blood that tenures those around me.
The bloodthirsty.
The Shadows of Sin

Revenge can be sweet but it can also be brutal.

WARNING: Be prepared going into this. This is NOT for the faint of heart. It’s dark and brutal.

(I will tell you right now, I will not talk plot or storyline in this review. This story is so intricate that I feel knowing anything other than what the blurb gives you will spoil the experience. I can honestly say that I am so glad I had nothing other than the blurb and a few teasers to go on. This is a book best gone into blind.)

Since I had no clue what to expect going in…….. Wow……just WOW!! I was really caught off guard with this one……. My first thought when I turned the last page was “that was one of the best books I have ever read”.

Fragile Truths is gritty, erotic, intense, sinister, beautiful, violent, brutal, and absolutely spellbinding. It’s a story of revenge, secrets, sacrifice, love, lies, and just how fragile the truth really is. This is one of the most heart pounding and punishing books I have ever read! This story is dripping with anticipation and intensity. It certainly wreaked havoc on my nerves, not to mention my emotions and heart. I was definitely caught up in the power and brutality of it all.

I picked this up because the blurb completely intrigued me, and I was dying to figure out the connection between the three – Frankie, Tate, and Jude. When you discover the context of this blurb, you will be surprised, astonished, and utterly appalled at the circumstances that bring them together. You will find that Frankie and Tate’s relationship is erotic under the most unexpected and horrific circumstances.

This is an absolute page-turner! I could not put this down. I was reading with one eye open bracing for what was to come next. My nerves were on edge, and I was itching to jump to the end to know how it all played out. The suspense was literally killing me. It's anything but predictable. You can try figuring it out, but the fury with which the story unfolds will leave your head spinning and unable to think.

The storytelling is brilliant, and the authors paint such a vivid picture of everything that happens. They squeezed every last drop of emotion out of this story. It’s like I stepped into the middle of beautiful nightmare.

This book will have you wanting your own revenge and crying out in frustration and utter disbelief. You will be aghast and surprised at what takes place. You will want to punch someone HARD. You will be elated and angry at the same time. The brutality is jaw-dropping. Never in a million years could I ever have imagined what takes place between these pages. It’s simply astounding and shocking.

I cannot say enough about how much I thoroughly enjoyed this. I am ecstatic that this is part of a series. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!!!

So what’s next???? Of course I had to ask the authors what the plan is for the rest of the series. I am elated to say the plan is to have 5 books total in the series. Each book will be based on a character introduced in Fragile Truths. The books will all be related but have their own story with no cliffhanger. Jude’s book will be next and hopefully be out around the July timeframe.

5 STARS!!!

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover: ARC Review

Title:  Maybe Someday
Author:  Colleen Hoover
Release Date:  March 18, 2014

♫♪♫♪♫♪ BUY MAYBE SOMEDAY ♫♪♫♪♫♪

At twenty-two years old, Sydney has a great life: She's in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter's cheating on her--and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by Ridge, her mysterious neighbor. She can't take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there's something about Sydney that Ridge can't ignore, either. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one...

Colleen Hoover, Colleen Hoover….. oh, how I love thee. Let me count the ways.

I’m not sure I can write a coherent review for this one. So I am going with random thoughts...

Can you believe I was afraid to read this?!?!?!?!? It’s a CoHo book for crying out loud, and I was afraid. (*eye roll*) Why? Well, I heard rumblings of a love triangle. While it’s somewhat of an untraditional triangle, it still has 3 sides and once connected makes a triangle. I like stories with a single line that runs from guy to girl. No veering of course, no wavy lines, straight and to the point. I’m not so good with angst.

Needless to say, this is so NOT what I was expecting.. AT ALL!!!!

I think this is Colleen Hoover’s BEST work to date. Some may feel otherwise, but it’s probably because this book is REAL. Life isn’t fair, people get hurt…… that’s just the way it is.

One word ----> ABSOLUTELY ORIGINAL!! (ok, thats 2 but whatever)

Creating an original soundtrack was genius. LOVE IT! It’s hard to read lyrics in a book without actually hearing the song. The soundtrack more than added to the experience.

The fact that I was sitting in my car waiting for the traffic light to turn green, and I just burst into tears thinking about Maybe Someday says alot..... or maybe it just says I'm irrational and crazy??? IDK

If Colleen Hoover ever offers you an Oreo respectfully decline and back away slowly.

Lets talk about character names CoHo is the queen of choosing names for characters. I swear I am letting her name my next child. So if the whole writing thing doesn't pan out, I think you have a good shot at making it in the baby naming biz.

I love how Syd and Ridge meet. It kind of had me happy clapping like a school girl. Very sweet.

CoHo seriously needs to take out an insurance policy for her brain like models do for their legs with Lloyd's of London.

Warren – he was quirky when we first met him, then a total a$$, and by the end I fell in love. And, his choice of television entertainment is not for everyone, to say the least. Dare I say he was my favorite????? I mean ‘you suck’, Warren.

I never really looked at the cover before. Now it makes sense. DUUUUUUH!

I swear I had a constant smirk plastered on my face. Parts of this were so hilarious. It was like an instant mood fixer for me. I was seriously busting a gut laughing so hard and out loud on the train.

I would like my heart back. If it’s a pound of flesh you’re wanting, I will trade you. I will give you a kid - I have two so I am fine giving you one (plus, I know you’ll take great care of it). But I'm warning you, you're getting the one that doesn't listen….

Maybe Someday is definitely one of THE best books I have EVER read! With Colleen Hoover, you’re basically guaranteed something great, but this surpasses anything that I could possibly say using 26 letters!!!!
