Love of a Lifetime is book one in a paranormal romance series by Riley Murphy. This is the first paranormal romance by this author, and I was really surprised, in a good way. I don’t read a lot of paranormal, but I DO read everything Riley Murphy. She is one of my favorite authors, so it was an automatic one-click for me. Her “Reluctant” series is on my top ten list.
I was really shocked at the level of detail and intensity of this story. There isn’t a ton more detail I can give other than what is in the synopsis without giving away spoilers, but oh. my. gosh!! It was good! I really felt my heart break for Finley and Jack and what they had been through in their previous lives together. I wanted to hate Jack for a moment. I felt sorry for Riley Murphy for a little while, as she fended off emails from me, asking questions!! She was more than patient with me as she assured me I wouldn’t always hate Jack. (Why did I hate Jack? Oh no, my dear friends, you have to read the book to find out!) She also listened to me give endless scenarios of what I thought was going to happen in the story line. I was NEVER right. Not ONCE. What. The. HECK?? I can always tell what is going to happen. Score one (Ok, about six) for Riley Murphy.
Did I mention that Finley is so cute and feisty you want to grab her and hug her? She takes learning of her paranormal existence very well, and she gives as well as gets. Jack. What do I say about Jack? He is super Alpha and , um, amorous. He loves Finley with a devotion that is endless and breathtaking. You can’t help but cheer this couple on. (I do want to say, that I did get over my momentary dislike of Jack, if you can’t tell from my comments here!)
I will say that this book has I will call a “Happy for Now” ending, because I think some things will be worked out in the next books. But it does NOT have a cliffhanger. If you decide not to read any more of the series, you will be fine (Although I think you will want to read the rest, because it was a kick ass story!)
I give it five stars, because four days after finishing it, I am still thinking about the characters, and thinking of emailing the author and asking more questions. The only thing stopping me is the thought that I might face some type of restraining order or other legal action. ;)
Riley Murphy writes sexy, humorous and emotional romance, happy ending
guaranteed. An optimist, she believes life is awesome, people are
complicated, but in a good way, and we should never stop learning. Riley
