BLURB
“I own you. I have the
piece of paper to prove it. It’s undeniable and unbreakable. You belong to me
until you’ve paid off your debts.”
Nila Weaver’s family is indebted. Being
the first born daughter, her life is forfeit to the first born son of the Hawks
to pay for sins of ancestors past. The dark ages might have come and gone, but
debts never leave. She has no choice in the matter.
She is no longer free.
Jethro Hawk receives Nila as an
inheritance present on his twenty-ninth birthday. Her life is his until she’s
paid off a debt that’s centuries old. He can do what he likes with her—nothing
is out of bounds—she has to obey.
There are no rules. Only payments.
A modern day Dark Erotic Romance
EXCERPT - Meet Jethro & Nila
Nina's POV
“Huge
disappointment, Ms. Weaver.” His cold glare sent a snowstorm wiping away
the bonfire in my belly. “I’m done playing games, so cut the bullshit. Time to
begin the day.” His voice gave no room for interpretation. A cold draft shot
down my back.
My brief reprieve from debts and horrible
Hawks was over. I’d been shown something I desperately wanted, but denied it
because I failed to please him.
“You could teach me…show me how…” I
couldn’t make eye contact with him. Mortification painted my cheeks for both
admitting I was clueless and asking a monster to coach me.
Jethro laughed. “You think that will save you from what’s
coming? Was that your little plan? To make me fuck you in the hopes I might feel something for you?”
*****
Jethro's POV
I stood up slowly, clicking my tongue.
“Ah, ah, ah, Ms. Weaver. Don’t take that tone with me. You’re the failure. You’re the prisoner. You take what I
give you. You do not assume to have any say or authority. That includes
listening to everything I deem important to tell you.” Ghosting to a stop in
front of her, I murmured, “Is that quite understood?”
I flexed my muscles, welcoming back the
soothing chillness of control. I hadn’t liked stepping outside my confines of
civility. Things got messy when silence was disrupted. Things got rushed when
tempers rose and curses flowed.
And I didn’t want to rush her undoing. I
wanted to savour it. Devour it.
LORIE’S REVIEW
Torture! That's what this entire book is... sweet,
beautiful, and delicious TORTURE…… a major dick tease. I just wanted Pepper to put it in and finally
fuck me for crying out loud. This is filled to the brim with sexual frustration
and tension. It’s utterly fabulous!
The blurb tells you exactly what
you’re getting yourself in to. So I don’t
see the need to rehash any of that. But if
you asked me what the story is really about, I’d tell you POWER… sheer
power. This quote explains Indebted to a tee!
“Power wasn’t threats or uncivilized fighting. It wasn’t brawn or hard-won arguments.
Power was holding something so absolute, a man would do what he
was told–all the while cursing your very soul.
True power wasn’t wielded by gangs or even loudly-spoken governments.
True Power. Limitless power–only grace a fair few. It gave those lucky few the ability–the nobility,
to be courteous and polite. All while
holding their fucking balls in their hands.”
The Hawk name is legendary, and
Hawk men wield an inordinate amount of control and influence. But, Hawks
taking the Weaver women to cover an age old debt??? What???
That is just so ancient and barbaric. I just don't understand how the
debt could have lasted AND been enforced for so long. I know the entire point of the story isn't the backstory of the debt, it’s
about power and the relationship between Nila and Jethro; but, the whole debt thing
just bothered me because I couldn’t comprehend it. Ok ok. I admit it. This started out looking
like a 3.5 or almost 4 stars for me because of the whole "debt" thing but by
the end....OMG, holy shit this proved to be more than a 5 star read!
Jethro Hawk is sexy and
dangerous. He turns controlling and
manipulation into an art form. The man
is a hunter and poor Nila is his unsuspecting prey. He’s the man you love to hate and hate to
love. Surprisingly, Nila turned out to
be a great heroine. Just like Jethro,
Nila's naïveté got on my nerves, but she intrigued me and I genuinely liked
her. She was weak yet strong, timid yet bold.
Even after she fully understands the direness of her situation, Nila isn’t
afraid to challenge Jethro and the rest of the Hawk clan. Her feistiness and intelligence is
refreshing.
It is said that actions speak
louder than words, but after reading Indebted
you’ll realize just how powerful words can be. While this first installment doesn’t have as
much “dark” as I expected, Pepper Winters surely managed to instill fear and
uncertainty in me with mere words. The sense of foreboding this story is
wrapped in is absolutely phenomenal. Just
through Jethro's internal thoughts and outward dialogue, knowing what was to
come for Nila set me on edge. It was a mix of fear and, oddly enough,
excitement. Pepper's ability to elicit such strong feelings and emotions from a
reader is simply exquisite. There is no better reading experience than when you
intimately feel all of the emotions of the main character.
Beware, this book is a vacuum. It will suck you in. Make sure you have the time to devote to this
when you start it because you are not going want to put it down until you get
to the very last word. The family
secrets and the hints of horrible things kept me on the edge of my seat. I was
literally yelling "get it over with already, I can't stand not knowing.
OMG this is sheer delectable torture". I.
COULD. NOT. PUT. THIS. DOWN. I was
reading a furiously ridiculous pace and devoured this in no time at all.
With Indebted, Pepper creates an unbelievable air of anticipation and fear of the unknown. It's palpable and borders on tangible. It's simply amazing that she has the ability to transport the reader to another realm. When I read a Pepper Winters book, it's as if nothing around me exists outside the world Pepper has created between those pages. Clearly, Pepper Winters was born to write. Her words are beautiful, elegant, and unlike anything else. She truly is a gift to readers.
I guess I should have done my
homework before I opened the first page.
It was a Pepper Winters book so I never saw the need, but I’m certainly
rethinking my decision. It’s no secret
that I love serials, and I love cliffhangers.
I knew Indebted was part of a
series, what I didn’t realize is that it will be 6-7 books!!! OMG.
That is just plain mean and torturous.
6-7 books???? I seriously don’t
think I can’t wait for the next book for the next six if they end like this one
did. Oh yah, and that cliffhanger…..
yes, I love them but this time I’m mad!
I need to rethink shelving the remainder of the series until at least
the next 3 or 4 books are already out. But,
I know that probably won’t happen because Pepper Winters is always my downfall.
