Nikolai:

Not because his eyes are cold or my friend warns me away from him, but because he’s the only man that has ever seen the real me beneath the awkwardness. With him, my heart is at risk..and also, my life.
Have
you ever read a book that you really liked, but when someone asks what you
liked about it you don’t know what to say?
Well, that’s me with Last Hit. I really liked it, but for some reason I really had trouble getting my thoughts down on paper. I’m not sure if it’s because there’s just too
much to say or because I don’t know where to start.
Both
Daisy and Nick were sheltered from the world in very different ways. Daisy knows very little of what exists
outside the 4 walls of her farmhouse. Nick
knows nothing aside from his job and the “family” he’s been part of since he
was a boy. Daisy’s naïve and Nick’s a
killer. Two people could not be more
opposite if they tried. But, are they
really that different once you look really look beneath the surface?
Both
Daisy and Nick are “A little mentally twisted, a little sick in the head, and a
lot lonely and needing of love.” When
you really strip it down to the core, Daisy and Nick have been searching for
someone to love without actually realizing it. Neither one knows how to be in a
relationship, but together they fumble though and try to figure how the whole
relationship thing is supposed to work. Then,
the story took a quick left turn, throwing me for a major loop. All of a sudden, Nick’s life Daisy knows
absolutely nothing about comes barreling in and introduces itself with no
apologies. I knew it would happen at
some point, but the intensity in which it happened caught me off guard. What happens when Nick’s secret life sucks
Daisy in is nothing short of breathtaking.
Last
Hit is definitely darker and sexier than what I’m used to from Jen
Frederick. And I. LOVED. EVERY. SINGLE.
MINUTE. OF. IT. It is was erotic,
exciting, intense, and emotional. I love
stories with broken characters but Daisy and Nick are two of my favorites. I love the connection the pair have – you can feel just how much they need and love
each other.
When
I read a book, it’s all about how it makes me feel and how drawn I am to the
characters. Jen & Jessica create a
lovable killer in Nick. How is that even
possible??? I think the dual POV has a
lot to do with it. If I wasn’t in the mind of Nick, I’m not sure I’d feel as
strongly as I do for his character – don’t get me wrong, he’d still be
irresistible, just in a different way.
He’s a killer, but the way he’s written makes you see WHO he is and not
WHAT he is – it’s actually quite remarkable.
Nick’s beautiful, confident, and always in control, but the fact that he
has no idea how to pursue Daisy is so unbelievably sweet. His awkwardness with words around her just
made me want to jump in the pages and give him a big hugs of
encouragement. And, there is just something about Nick’s
broken English that makes it adorable and endearing.
Even
though the story for me centered around Nick, I have to at least say something about
Daily since she is the sole reason Nick opened his heart. Daisy may be bit naïve by believing the best
in people, but that’s exactly what Nick needed.
Her innocence is what drew Nick to her, and it’s what made me like her
so much, too. Despite not knowing much
about life, Daisy is a strong and smart woman. For a naïve character, I truly did like her.
I
have to admit that lately I have been totally obsessed with bad boys… and I mean
BAD ones! So to say I thoroughly enjoyed
Last Hit is an understatement. I had no
clue this was to be a series, so I was more than excited when I found out. I am looking forward to Daniel and Regan’s
story.

HIT!!
