great, but what really got me to pick up this book are four little words: inspired
by actual events. What???
Really??? Just reading Emerson Shaw’s inspiration

on her website will convince you to pick up Acts of Desperation out of sheer
curiosity.
First, I have
to talk about Anders. I need to get this
out of my system. OMG!!!! WHAT A MANIPULATIVE, CONTROLING, narcissistic PIECE OF CRAP!!! I cannot tell you how many times I wanted to
jump in the pages and have at him! It’s
mind blowing to believe that someone has it in them to do what Anders did, but
what’s even more unbelievable is the he did it to his family. I want to track him down and kick him in the
nuts!! Seriously, I was so frustrated
reading this…… it seriously pisses me off that people can do things like this
and not be breaking the law. Okay, I
feel better now. Moving on…

Sember, LOVE
HER! It’s nice to have a heroine with
her head on her shoulders. She’s
level-headed and smart. And, I love the
bond she shares with her sister, Sarah. Sarah’s
going through a rough divorce and Sember is her shoulder to cry on. Sember’s desire to help her sister leads us
to Jax. Jax. Sigh….. Jax. He’s the knight in shining armor that rides into town, sweeps Sember off her feet, and ultimately saves the day. Too good to be true??? Maybe. Jax has some secrets he’s hiding. Sember gives Jax some space regarding his “secret”, but it starts to drive a wedge in her trust of him. AND, when his secret comes out of hiding…… omigod, omigod, omigod. Never in a million years did I ever imagine that’s what it would be.
Overall, Acts of Desperation is a nice
debut. The storyline is great but there
is a lot going on between the pages. It definitely kept me interested from start
to finish with quite a bit of I-didn’t-see-that-coming, but sometimes I couldn’t
decide what storyline I was more interested in– Sarah’s divorce and her
troubles with Anders, Sember’s relationship with Jax, or Jax’s past. My mind was just bouncing all over the place.
It’s a romance, suspense, and legal thriller all wrapped up on one. It is definitely different, and a nice change of
pace from a lot of the books out there now.
